Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for creating a safe and supportive space for youth and young people who wish to drop-in to the Youth Center at night (9pm-9am)
  • Welcome all clients with kindness, respect and without judgement
  • Develop supportive relationships with youth/young people while maintaining professional boundaries, so that they feel safe and supported while visiting and hanging out in the Youth Center
  • Offer clients support based on a harm reduction, recovery-based approach
  • De-escalate emotional situations using conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques
  • Record client notes, daily logs and incident reports following appropriate policies for recording, sharing information appropriately and confidentially
Qualifications
  • A certificate or diploma in a related field (e.g. Community Studies, Mental Health/Addictions, Psychology, etc.) or willingness to get a Child and Youth Care Diploma through trainings offered in Nain and/or by distance. A combination of related education and experience will also be considered.
  • Training to be received in: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ASIST, Intergenerational Trauma and Addictions, Recovery Model, 1st Aid/CPR
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
