Responsibilities

- Provide counselling services, develop therapeutic relationships and support healing interventions with individuals, couples, families, and groups. This will include clinical support in times of crisis.
- Support the development, delivery, and monitoring of care plans for clients, based on the principles of person-centered care, harm reduction, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services.
- Support the Mental Health & Addictions Team in the development and delivery of community-based programs, health promotion and healing initiatives.
- Collaborate, refer to and work closely with other services providers, which may include taking a service navigation/case management approach to ensure mental wellness needs of clients are being met through other existing community and regional services, where pertinent.
- Complete necessary documentation and maintaining of client records and files.
- Support the facilitation of community-based programming from other DHSD regional providers, including justice programs, harm reduction initiatives and intergenerational trauma workshops, drawing upon clinical best practices and cultural/traditional knowledge for healing.
- Provide follow-up and continuing care to families, couples, groups and individuals, particularly following regional team community visits (ie. Trauma & Addictions Team).
- Maintain current knowledge of issues, trends, and best practices within the mental health field, particularly related to northern/remote and Indigenous populations.
- Work to ensure Inuit culture and values permeate all programs and service components and decisions, to include participation and input on working groups/committees.
- Support coordination and communication with regional and community partners for successful service delivery, including educating and advocating to ensure services provided to Inuit are trauma-informed and strengths-based.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or the equivalent Clinical Counselling education/experiences.
- Experience in mental health & addictions, strengths-based, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed principles.
- Understanding of Inuit culture, intergenerational trauma, and overall mental wellness needs.
- Strong preference for experience working with Labrador Inuit and in Nunatsiavut communities
- In addition, the successful candidate will be willing to travel for regional and national committee and work purposes.
