Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver career and education focused presentations to children in Grades K – 12 in Nunatsiavut.
  • Provide career-counseling services to students in Grades 9 through 12, which may include program/career choice, course selection and post-secondary preparation
  • Assist students in the development of their individual educational plans and goals.
  • Employ knowledge and skills necessary to counsel students about the different post-secondary programs.
  • Promote importance of education to K-12 students as well as community members.
  • Maintain/revise materials and conduct workshops on Education Division post-secondary funding options for students entering post-secondary studies.
  • Conduct research on programs/institutions, career options and career placement tools.
  • Maintain social media presence through Facebook profile “Nunatsiavut Edu Counsellor”.
  • Identify promotional materials for use during events, school visits, and public engagement.
  • Employ knowledge and skills necessary to counsel students about the different College programs and transfer requirements to university institutions.
  • On-going communication with post-secondary institutions, businesses, organizations and key stakeholders in career planning and academic support.
  • Planning and delivery of annual Career Fair.
  • Plan and coordinate annual Grade 11 Career Trip.
  • Plan and coordinate annual Career Trip for mature adults out of school.
  • Plan and coordinate annual Grade 9 Career Trip for delivery by NL Schools staff.
  • Data entry into ARMS as required.
  • Training and in-servicing as required.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications
  • College diploma or higher in Education, Social Sciences, or Career Counselling or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Must have understanding/knowledge of secondary/post-secondary educational institutions and programs.
  • Must have ability to facilitate group workshops.
  • Possess strong emotional intelligence, communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Work individually with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Inuit Culture and Inuit Communities.
