Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a Child Development program for children under the age of 5.
  • Collect information through parents or service providers engagement to determine the different types of programming that should be made available to Parents.
  • Plan and deliver Parenting Program which may include but is not limited to:
    • Inuit specific parenting (Inunnguiniq)
    • Self-care
    • Parent support group
    • Food security
  • Plan and deliver School Readiness Program to prepare children with the social and emotional control skills to prepare them for a structured learning environment.
  • Deliver an Afterschool Program for school age children.
  • Participate in professional development and training as required.
  • Oversee the development and maintain the child care space, equipment and materials.
  • Ensure that all programming is grounded in Inuit culture and values.
  • Partner with and build positive relationships other services providers and professionals including Family Connections, Community Health Workers, CSSD, local schools.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Team leader
  • Willing to work flexible hours to accommodate programming
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (minimum level 2) or Child Development/Behavior Management with 1-2 years or related experience. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a non-parental role providing support to children and/or families
  • Person must also display a proven ability to work in a team approach with children/families.
  • Must be able to obtain a clear Code of conduct and Vulnerable sector check.
  • Strong communication skills oral and written.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Effective time and organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of community services and supports
