Responsibilities

  • Promote positive mental health by developing and implementing programming and services around child & youth mental health.
  • Collaborate with Child & Youth Mental Health Team to create programming to include psychoeducation of mental health topics.
  • Collaborate with Child & Youth Mental Health Team in the delivery of workshops and trainings at the regional, provincial, and national level for Inuit child & youth mental health.
  • Under the supervision of the Child & Youth Mental Health Clinical Lead, provide supportive counselling mental health services to children & youth, in individual, family and/or group contexts.
  • Incorporate holistic wellness approaches such as: expressive arts, mindfulness, sand tray, land-based/cultural activities, Elders, etc. into supportive counselling.
  • Collaborate with and support community and regional service providers in delivery of programs and services for child and youth mental health.
  • Advocate and coordinate mental health services for children and youth in Nunatsiavut in collaboration with community and regional supports to ensure the delivery of recommended care plans.
  • Provide support during crisis and/or traumatic events as needed, such as offering grief support, home visits, school visits and outreach to those identified needing support.
  • Work collaboratively with divisions within the Department of Health & Social Development, to plan and deliver a variety of child & youth mental health promotion, prevention, and educational programming.
  • Work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends
  • Travel as required
  • Training and in-servicing as required
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • 2-year diploma in Community Studies, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Studies and 3-5 years of relevant experience. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Self-directed with strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of social, cultural and community issues facing Inuit communities
  • Demonstrated experience working with child & youth mental health, preferably in an Indigenous context
