  • Lead the planning, creation and delivery of Labrador Inuit specific programs, services and resources that effectively work towards suicide prevention.
  • Plan community events, activities, and celebrations, to promote health, wellness, and education related to celebrating life and suicide prevention such as land-based trips and outings, symposiums, conferences, and gatherings.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of Nunatsiavut-specific programs and resources to celebrate life and promote suicide prevention that effectively communicate information about suicide risk factors and protective factors.
  • Work with DHSD and other NG departments, NLHS, NL Schools, ITK, individuals, community agencies/organizations, etc. to ensure that suicide prevention programs and resources are rooted in Inuit culture and are evidenced based
  • Assist staff within the department, by providing and/or developing information on relevant suicide prevention, education strategies & interventions and celebrate life materials, information, and programming.
  • Actively engage with ITK and Inuit Regions regarding suicide prevention/celebrate life initiatives, best practices, relevant research, etc.
  • Connect with other jurisdictions, and regions to network and understand different approaches to wellness, celebrate life, and suicide prevention
  • Maintain current list(s) of facilitators for programs such as ASIST, safeTALK, and MHFA-I, and plan training opportunities for workshops cross the region, and outside of the region where applicable
  • Develop an effective communication strategy, social media campaign related to suicide prevention and celebrating life with messages/graphics specific to Labrador Inuit/community contexts
  • Responsible for management of budgets, proposals, and reporting in relation to wellness and suicide prevention funding opportunities
  • Participate in opportunities for professional development related to position responsibilities
Qualifications
  • A diploma in social work, community studies, mental health & addictions, or similar field, or equivalent training
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working within the area of mental wellness & healing, community development
  • Demonstrated knowledge & understanding of Inuit culture and experience working & living in an Inuit community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social determinants of health, mental health & substance use, intergenerational trauma and impacts on high suicides rates in communities.
  • Sensitivity to the target population and ability to comfortably and effectively relate to individuals experiencing suicide ideation and/or grief & loss due to impacts of suicide as well as their families, friends and community members.
  • Must be organized, non-judgmental, able to work both independently and as well as part of a team.
  • An innovative, creative, self-motivated individual with leadership qualities, positive attitude and healthy lifestyle.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to develop funding proposals, prepare financial reports and compile data
  • Strong commitment to personal & professional ethics and standards and ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries.
