Responsibilities
View English and Inuktitut version
- Assist in development and implementation of policies, procedures and education programs relating to the protection of archaeological resources.
- Help raise the profile of archaeology within the Nunatsiavut Government and with the general public.
- Provide assistance in reviewing applications for mineral exploration approval or quarry approval for any potential impact on historical resources.
- Assist the Senior Archaeologist in evaluating permit applications for archaeological activities within the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Area.
- Assist the Senior Archaeologist in overseeing all aspects of compliance of applications and reports with the NG Standards for Mineral Exploration on Labrador Inuit Lands
- Assist in reviewing all land use applications for Labrador Inuit Lands for any potential impact on historic or cultural resources.
- Assist with the management of archaeological sites in Labrador Inuit Lands.
- Accompany Senior Archaeologist on field trips and provide assistance with field work related to managing the archaeological resources of Nunatsiavut.
- Assist in conducting a review of any Environmental Assessments of proposed Projects or Undertakings within the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area with regards to impacts on cultural and historic resources.
- Assist inn the implementation of the Collections Management Policy
- Curate Nunatsiavut Government owned collections of Archaeological Materials, Inuit Cultural Materials and Archival Records
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with 3-5 years of related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Assets
- Bilingual in Inuktitut and English
- GIS experience and certifications
- Proficiency in database management
