Responsibilities

  • Serve as a leader, resource and advocate for the implementation of a Sexual Health Program for the Nunatsiavut Government;
  • The development and implementation of a comprehensive Sexual Health Program for Nunatsiavut communities within established timelines;
      • An environmental scan of current practices for sexual health care across the continuum
      • Assess the enhanced scope of practice for public health nurses and co-develop the related medical directives;
      • Development of related policies and procedures
      • Organization and implementation of staff education and training
  • Manage the budget allocated for Sexual Health Program;
  • Coordinate the working groups, develop work plans, document progress and routine reporting on progress
  • Facilitate the production and distribution of all reports and other documents;
  • Coordinate the evaluation of the Sexual Health Program;
  • Articulate the goals and objectives, progress and anticipated next steps of the Sexual Health Program to NG staff, community members (including youth, elders, adults), partner agencies & provincial/federal governments;
  • Identify opportunities to engage and form linkages with community partners;
  • Manage the logistics of implementation including organizing regular meetings, special sessions with sexual health experts and the annual review of the plan (to name a few);
  • Organize and chair regular meetings of working groups;
  • Provide nursing surge capacity as required;
  • Travel is required;
  • Performs other related duties as required;
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree and eligibility for Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador with a minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Experience with Public Health program development, implementation and evaluation;
  • Knowledge and experience in project management
  • Experience in Sexual Health Programming;
  • Ability to think strategically, focus on multiple activities and integrate best practices related to Sexual Health with Inuit values & practices;
  • Demonstrated work experience in health promotion and working knowledge of the social determinants of health, policy development and community engagement;
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), interpersonal and teambuilding skills to develop effective working relationships with staff, communities and partner agencies;
  • Excellent organization, facilitation and presentation skills for public speaking, presentations and workshops, etc.;
  • Demonstrated abilities related to leadership, priority setting, decision-making, problem-solving and time management;
  • Demonstrated understanding of community needs and the traditional values in Inuit communities especially related to health;
  • Knowledge of word-processing and research.
