Responsibilities

- Support the Nunatsiavut Government Climate Change Committee in the finalization of the Nunatsiavut Climate Change Strategy
- Manage and support the implementation of the Nunatsiavut Climate Change Strategy and implementation plan
- Coordinate and manage all NG-led climate change related research and monitoring projects
- Liaise and coordinate with external partners on external research and monitoring projects
- Liaise and coordinate with external organizations and academic institutions on their Nunatsiavut climate change related work
- Support the climate change needs of other NG Departments, including the Nunatsiavut Infrastructure Strategy
- Work with and support the National Inuit Climate Change Committee and the Inuit-Canada Table on Clean Growth and Climate Change
- Chair the Nunatsiavut Regional Climate Change Committee (includes community members from all Nunatsiavut communities) and report back to the Nunatsiavut Government Climate Change Committee
- Where possible, Support community initiatives on climate change needs and issues
- Participate in relevant permit review processes from various organizations such as the province, Inuit Communities, Voisey’s Bay, environmental assessments, etc.
- Assist with the development and implementation of community and regional research studies and projects to promote environmental protection and sustainable development.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations at the Nunatsiavut Research Centre
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field, with 5-10 years of related experience. Combination of relevant education and/or experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3 years working in the climate change space, preferably in Nunatsiavut or Inuit Nunangat
- Experience interacting and working the governments, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations
- A clear understanding of climate change realities of Labrador Inuit and the Nunatsiavut region
- Experience working in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in Microsoft Project is considered an asset.
- Excellent time management skills that include balancing short-term and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlines
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and diverse communities
- Willingness to travel and work in remote situations in a variety of environmental conditions
- Ability to write, review and understand technical documents, reports, and applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with persons of a wide variety of backgrounds and skills, including community members, government employees, and industry representatives
- Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills
- Clear organizational and analytic skills
