  • The primary responsibility of this position will be for the implementation and delivery of Tuberculosis (TB) programs in Nain with the goal of preventing, identifying, treating and controlling the spread of TB. The individual will work with community health nursing staff, NL Health Services Labrador-Grenfell zone staff, along with Provincial and Federal health teams. Duties include, but are not limited to:
      • Provide nursing care for clients in the TB program
      • Provide administrative function and oversight of the TB program and staff working in the TB program
      • Maintain a thorough and sound working knowledge of current primary health care and public health nursing practices, skills and knowledge
  • If the successful applicant is not located in the community of Nain, the incumbent will travel into Nain on a regular 2 week rotational basis, and more often as required in response to outbreaks
  • When not in community providing client care, this position will be supporting regional nursing staff with program development, policy revision and development, and other related responsibilities. Duties include, but are not limited to:
      • Work in collaboration with the Director of Health Services, Community Health Nursing Manager and other DHSD staff as required to revise and develop new program polices as required
      • Liaise with community, regional and national partners as required in the revision, and creation of, program policies as required
      • Ensure best practices and are embedded in program policies
      • Participate in research and evaluation as required
  • When required, provide Public Health and Home Care Nursing relief in any of the communities in Nunatsiavut. Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Deliver Public Health programs such as Child Health Clinics, Preschool Health Checks and School Health program
    • Communicable disease follow up, health promotion and healthy living activities
    • Provide Home Care nursing services and oversight to staff and clients in the Home Support Services program
    • Provide foot Care and Diabetes education and oversight to clients
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree and eligibility for Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador with a minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Current CPR certification or an ability to be trained
  • Experience in Policy development, program management and evaluation
  • Knowledge in Primary Health Care and Tuberculosis programming
  • Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement in a community-based environment with limited supervision, work collaboratively with team members and the community
  • Demonstrated understanding of community needs and the traditional values in Inuit communities especially related to health.
Assets
  • Bilingual in Inuttitut and English
  • Experience in Community Health Nursing
  • Advanced Foot care course
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Community Health Nursing Certification
  • A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Diver license.
