Responsibilities

- Support facilitation of community-based intergenerational trauma and addiction programs within Nunatsiavut and Upper Lake Melville, drawing upon clinical best practices and cultural/traditional knowledge for individual, family, and group therapy and healing.
- Provide outreach and engagement with Labrador Inuit communities, families, and individuals, with particular attention to those most affected by intergenerational trauma and addictions.
- Provide follow-up and continuing care with Labrador Inuit communities, families, and individuals, particularly those who have been involved with Trauma and Addictions Healing Programs.
- Provide counselling services, develop therapeutic relationships and support healing interventions with individuals, couples and families, and groups, before, during, and after Trauma and Addictions Healing Programs.
- Support incorporation of culturally-appropriate holistic wellness approaches such as: expressive arts, psychodrama, meditation, land-based and cultural activities, Elders and Knowledge Holders, etc…into the Trauma and Addictions Healing Program.
- Support the development, delivery, and monitoring of care plans for clients and program participants, based on the principles of harm reduction, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services.
- Maintain current knowledge of issues, trends, and best practices within the trauma &addictions fields, particularly related to northern/remote and Indigenous populations.
- Work to ensure Inuit culture and values permeate all program components and decisions.
- Support coordination and communication with regional and community partners for successful program delivery, including educating and advocating to ensure services provided to Inuit are trauma-informed and strengths-based.
- Assist with acquiring all necessary resources (funding, space, time, travel arrangements, and equipment), which are consistent with program goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or the equivalent Clinical Counselling education/experiences.
- Experience with strengths-based, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed principles.
- Understanding of Inuit culture, intergenerational trauma, and healing.
- Strong preference for experience working with Labrador Inuit and in Nunatsiavut communities
- In addition, the successful candidate will be willing to spend a significant portion of time travelling for work-related activities in the NG region
