Responsibilities
View English and Inuktitut version
- Translate for patients/medical and personal care staff whenever required.
- Educate all required medical staff in cultural differences, conditions in patient’s home communities, etc. as necessary.
- Assist patients through the health care system by understanding the nature of their illness and any investigations or treatment required, hospital routine, conveying patient’s problems and concerns to hospital staff, finding their way around the hospital and ensuring their comfort.
- Keep records of patient encounters and other required statistics.
- Act as the point of contact between Beneficiaries and NL Health Services staff needing translation to ensure clear and effective communication
- Facilitate visits with residents in long-term care, engaging them in activities and social events, while providing interpretation and translation services in Inuktitut to support meaningful communication and cultural connection.
- Assist with on-call rotation and shift work, if needed.
- Travel with patients if necessary and as required.
- Training as required.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Interpreter/Translator Program offered by Torngasok Cultural Institute or any combination of training and experience.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to speak and write English and Inuktitut fluently.
- Working knowledge of MS Word/Excel/Windows.
Assets
